The Guardsman Hotel – the facilities

The outside of The Guardsman belies its stylish and carefully put together interior. The area it’s located in is as functional as the outside. With a feel of a business district Westminster is easy to see the sights from and outside of office hours it take on a very different feel, calm and quiet despite being in the heart of the city.

  • 🍝 – room service & a restaurant for guests only

The Family Hotel Expert view –

While the facilities at The Guardsman aren’t extensive, they have everything you need for your stay in the city to feel really special. This is a hotel that feels intimate and personal, with staff genuinely caring and going out of their way to ensure you get everything you can from a stay here. The lounges feel like places to really relax in. While the hotel doesn’t have parking there is off street parking around the hotel and even free parking after 6.30 and at weekends.

The Guardsman London – the rooms

Despite only having 53 rooms The Guardsman offers really flexible accommodation options. There are doubles that connect with singles, or connect with other doubles and suites giving lots of configurations. The products in the bathrooms are gorgeous and rooms have Nespresso machines and a great selection of different, high quality teas on offer. Gowns and slippers are provided for adults and children. The rooms are a good size for London.

The Family Hotel Expert view –

As a family of five we are well used to having one room for all of us or two interconnecting rooms with the children together in one. At The Guardsman each child was able to have their own bedroom and bathroom with all rooms interconnecting to create one large suite. The space was wonderful and really meant we could have a very relaxed stay in the city. While a bath in one of the bathrooms would have been lovely the showers were great quality with plenty of hot water and pressure and the products were really wonderful.

The Guardsman Hotel – the location

Westminster can feel like a very business area of the city. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes and shops around helping to give it more of a neighbourhood feel. The hotel is less than 500 yards to Buckingham Palace and St James’s Park, with its very sweet playground, is next to the Royal residence. In the other direction Victoria is very bustly and a real transport hub. In the evening and at weekends, when the city workers leave, it feels much quieter.

The Family Hotel Expert view –

We really enjoyed being in this area of the city. There were shops and restaurants nearby for us to pick up any supplies we needed. We loved walking out to Buckingham Palace and we all love St James’s Park. The area felt safe and we were really happy to find free parking over the weekend we stayed which in other areas of London is unheard of. The hotel felt incredibly quiet and calm.

🍳 Breakfast at The Guardsman

Breakfast is all served via an a’la carte menu. Items are individually priced or for £24.95 you can pick something from the hot menu (eggs, pancakes, French Toast), something from the light breakfast (berries, cereal, pastries), coffee or tea, toast and freshly squeezed juice. The food is of a really high standard, the fresh orange juice is wonderful and we loved the little local touches (like Bermondsey honey being used in the porridge). It’s fantastic that they have a vegan hot breakfast which was both delicious and interesting. The pastries were a little on the small side and didn’t feel as special as the other items.

🫖 – Afternoon Tea is available but we didn’t try it on our visit.

🍽️ – Dinner at The Guardsman

We had a wonderful family meal at The Guardsman. We started with cocktails and the hotel even offered mocktails for the children which they absolutely loved. For starters we had smoked salmon, asparagus with Hollandaise sauce and the 12 year old tried the spiced crab with avocado on sourdough. For main courses we had a delicious and fresh tasting asparagus risotto with seasonal vegetables and tofu, fish and chips and a pan fried east coast cod fillet with garden peas. We finished the meal with chocolate brownies and a lovely lemon tart with raspberry sorbet. The setting was stylish with lots of art and little design touches around and the food was of a really high quality. We loved the whole experience.

The Guardsman – family friendly

Despite having few facilities on offer this hotel is incredibly family friendly and couldn’t be more welcoming of the children. Having their own individual rooms is a fantastic opportunity for children and the television even has their own names up when they check in. There are lovely, personal gifts on arrival including the absolutely adorable Guardsman Bear which they all treasure and a Guardsman biscuit from the amazing London based Biscuiteers. Our children loved their stay at The Guardsman and the nine year old asked if we could just move in and not leave. We all had a family stay in London where we were able to really relax and spend some time just enjoying the city.
