Berlin
Berlin is an iconic city and has a really creative vibe to it, making it great for a family trip. Walk the streets to see the amazing street art, head to Zoo Berlin or Tierpark to see the animals or to the tranquil Gardens of the World. There are some wonderful museums which children will get so much from too including the Museum of Natural History, the German Museum of Technology or the quirky Deutsches Spionagemuseum. Cologne & Bonn

Cologne & Bonn are easy to combine on a single family trip as they’re very close together. Start in Bonn where you can take a visit to the Haribo factory shop (the sweet treat was founded here), to Sealife in nearby Konigswinter and to Beethoven’s House. Then travel over to Cologne, around 25 minutes on the train or an easy drive to visit the wonderful Farina Museum (the oldest fragrance house in the world), Koln Zoo and the Lindt chocolate factory. For a great stay in Bonn (where you can access all the sights of Cologne too), the Maritim Hotel is fantastic for families, close to a wonderful park and with an indoor pool and a Bahn train station almost opposite the hotel to access the city and beyond. Frankfurt
Frankfurt is a great city to spend time in as a family. Head to the Young Museum to learn history through reenactment for those aged 6 and over or the EXPERIMINTA ScienceCenter for fun, interactive science-based play. See over 4,500 animals at Zoo Frankfurt or enjoy the beautiful green space of Günthersburgpark. Frankfurt is a great introduction to Germany as a trip with kids with lots of activities and sights on offer. Stay at the five star Villa Kennedy where kids are welcomed with open arms. Munich
Munich really is a gem and the gateway to a Bavarian world of fairytale like castles and landscapes. The city has plenty to keep visitors occupied including Sea Life München and a Fairytale Forest which seems very fitting in this city. The Munich Zoo is a delightful day out and there are some family friendly museums including The Paleontological Museum Munich and the world’s largest science and technology museum, the Deutsches Museum. Hamburg
Hamburg is a really cool city and a great one to visit if you’re looking for family holidays to Germany. Fun activities include a visit to the animals at Hagenbeck Tierpark or a trip to Miniatur Wunderland, the world’s biggest miniature railway. If the sun is shining the city’s outdoor pools are a great place to soak up the vibe of Hamburg or visit Planten und Blomen, a huge green space in the centre of the city that is home to a number of playgrounds. Stuttgart
Stuttgart is a beautiful city for a wander. This is somewhere that’s easy to explore, with lovely walking areas and great parks. There are some great museums here from a fantastic Natural History Museum and the planetarium. You can also try out unique pretzels here. Leipzig
Leipzig is a really cool city in the German state of Saxony. Well known for its links to classical music there is plenty to tempt those travelling with kids. Leipzig Zoo, first opened in 1878, is a great trip out with children as is a wander through the Old Town. Stay at the Auenwald Hotel und Apartmenthaus which comes in at a fantastic price and has multi room apartments, ideal for families. They have a children’s playground and a swimming pool. The hotel is just 100 yards from Diakonissenhaus tram stop which goes straight to the centre of town in 15 minutes.
