London at Christmas is simply magical. The lights adorn the city and twinkle like snowflakes. There are so many great activities to take part in from seeing a traditional pantomime at one of the theatres to the winter offerings at the Southbank Centre. There’s Hyde Park Winter Wonderland and ice skating across the city, including in the fairytale like setting of the Natural History Museum. There really is so much to do here but even a walk through the parks in winter feels like a lovely activity, there’s something about London at this time of year that feels like such a great place to be. Stay in a hotel like Rubens at the Palace which is covered in hundreds of lights and is perfect if you’re looking for luxury family Christmas breaks UK style. As well as being in a great location, central but in close proximity to Edinburgh Airport being just 4km away, it has an indoor heated swimming pool which is perfect for this time of year.

Christmas breaks for kids – Europe

Heading away for a European break can be perfect at Christmastime. Some of the best Christmas markets in the world are in some of the European cities and you can head to some great ski resorts if you fancy a trip to the snow.

Tenerife

This can be a great time for some winter sun and Tenerife is perfect for that. The skies are usually blue and the temperature balmy. You might even find yourself walking barefoot on the beach. Stay at the Bahia Principe Fantasia Tenerife for a fairytale like break. This is an amazing all-inclusive hotel with a large number of themed restaurants and bars. Kids will love the castle, the fun splash parks and the wonderful kids clubs (they go up to 17 years old) on offer here. This really would be a Christmas to remember.

Turkey

Turkey is perfect for some winter warmth. There are beaches that temperatures will be still warm enough to enjoy and lots of great food and cultural experiences to be had. There’s nothing better than being on the beach at this time of year and without the jet-lag of some of the further flung destinations. The Danish capital is full of winter cheer and they have some great Christmas lights throughout the main streets. European ski resort

Many of them have special activities through December including firework displays and a skiing Father Christmas visiting the town. Ruka in Lapland is perfect in December, you can visit Father Christmas’s cottage nearby, take a ride with the reindeers or go on a husky sledge ride.
